Scope: The conference will focus on the basic mechanisms underlying infectious diseases and explore how they may be applied to drug development and other intervention strategies, paying particular attention to tuberculosis, malaria and more neglected diseases such as Buruli ulcer, leishmaniasis, schistosomiasis and filariasis, along with emerging viral diseases.

The conference is a joint initiative of the European Science Foundation (ESF), the International Council for Science (ICSU), the Network of African Science Academies (NASAC) and a consortium of European academies. Chairs: Prof. Parker (ICGEB, ZA) and Prof. Monique Capron (Lille Pasteur Institute, FR).
The conference will highlight excellence in European and African research in an ‘open forum format’ of plenary discussions and lively interactions both inside and outside the conference room. It is anticipated that this format will help both formal and informal knowledge exchange between leading scientists and young researchers to create new synergies resulting in intercontinental research projects and joint funding applications.
A large number of grants will be available to cover accepted participants' attendance and travel costs. Grant requests should be made by ticking appropriate field(s) in the paragraph "Grant application" on the application form.
Grantee: full conference fee + travel contribution.
Supported: partial conference fee of EUR 375.
Paying: travel contribution only and/or no conference grant , confernce fee EUR 750.
